Photo Challenge III is... Black and White!
This challenge will be about exploring what makes a a good black and white photo. I will try to summarize the important bits here but I suggest you follow the links provided at the bottom of the page for a good read and better understanding.
The are a few things to look for when trying to make a good monochrome image. First is to look for tonal contrast, the difference between the brightness and darkness of a scene. Tonal contrast combined with shapes, textures and or patterns should yield some interesting results.
Although I always recommend you shoot in RAW, for this challenge I recommend that if you do shoot RAW that you shoot RAW+JPEG and set your camera to Monochrome. This way you will still have the benefits of shooting in RAW but the images you see on the back of your camera will be in black and white and help you visualize what they will look like when converted and help you see tonal contrast better.
The Challenge
To create Black and White images with some thought behind them, not just slapping a black and white filter on them. Look for tonal contrast, interesting shapes and textures. Shoot in monochrome or convert to monochrome in post but try to use the information in the links provided to make the best Black and White images you can.
